History of Hendricks Avenue Elementary

  • Founded in 1942- Celebrating 80 years in 2022!
  • Currently over 600 students
  • 18 out of 20 years the school grade has been an “A” school
  • FCAT scores: average 4’s and 5’s: Top 10 in Duval County for past 10 years
  • Students participating in gifted programs: average of 110 over past five years
  • Low teacher turnover rate: 15 teachers/staff have invested 15+ years 
  • Physical wellness a top priority: outdoor track built in 2009!

Alumni Spotlight:

Marshall Burns

Marshall Burns was born in 1937 and attended Hendricks Avenue Elementary in the 1940’s.  He later went on to attend Landon High School and went on to college at the University of Florida.  From there, he was accepted to Tulane University School of Medicine where he graduated 8th in his class.  He has had a long and successful career as a cardiologist and has been very influential in his field.
